UNP plans to release him

UNP Deputy Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says that discussions are underway to release Ranjan Ramanayake who is in jail.

He stated this at a media briefing held at the Sirikotha party headquarters.

The second interim report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to probe Easter Sunday attacks was handed over to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat today (02).

The first interim report was handed over on December 20th, 2020.

The Commission was appointed by the former President Maithripala Sirisena on September 22nd, 2019 to investigate the series of attacks that took place on Easter Sunday same year and to recommend necessary actions.
Former Deputy Minister and LTTE's special commander for Ampara and Batticaloa Districts Vinaygamurthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman said on Saturday that it was he who persuaded President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa not to go ahead with the carving out of an Urban Council for the Sainthamaruthu region.

A beauty queen, Khanittha Phasaeng from Thailand has emerged as the winner in a national beauty pageant competition called Miss Uncensored News Thailand and has admitted that she used to be a garbage collector.

17-year-old Khanittha “Mint” Phasaeng has been helping her mother to collect garbage in order to support themselves. She also had to give up her studies after her sixth year in high school, as her mother couldn’t afford her school fees.
NASA has said search and rescue teams are on their way to the Russian Soyuz MS-10 spacecraft capsule after an issue with its booster rockets meant the two astronauts on board had to abort their mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

It launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan with Russian cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin and American astronaut Nick Hague onboard, but they were forced to abandon their flight to the ISS within minutes. They were scheduled for a six-month stay on the ISS.

During that 9-year long period, four experienced Commanders maintaining the highest level of battle-preparedness have commanded the Army while introducing various training modules and exercises to that effect which are being more refinedly continued to-date. Likewise, all measures have been adopted uninterruptedly to introduce new training modules at all levels for all ranks, incorporating most modern techniques of warfare, based on experiences, gained in the battlefield in order to face any future battle threat perception. Similarly, necessary measures have been adopted comparatively to enhance more opportunities for both Officers and Other Ranks to receive foreign training slots with state patronage. This has further broadened their knowledge on international warfare, too.

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte had lauded President Maithripala Sirisena for Sri Lanka’s plan to replicate the success of the Philippines’ war on drugs, the Philippine News Agency reported on Thursday.

President Duterte’s Spokesperson Harry Roque made this reaction after President Sirisena has recognized Philippines’ successful approach against illegal drugs.

“Of course, we are happy that other countries have taken note of our war on drugs and that they look upon us as best practice on dealing with illegal drugs. So we appreciate that, but as of now, we still have no death penalty,” Roque said in a press briefing.
